Frequently Asked Questions
Whether this is your first Mega Challah Bake or you’ve been with us from the beginning, we’re so glad you’re joining us! Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often.
About the Mega Challah Bake
What is the Mega Challah Bake?
The Mega Challah Bake is an unforgettable evening that brings hundreds of Jewish women together to make challah, connect, and experience the beauty and power of this special old tradition.
Together, we’ll mix and knead our own challah dough while enjoying an evening filled with inspiration, connection, delicious food, and incredible Jewish energy.
Do I need to know how to make challah?
Not at all! Everything you need will be waiting for you, and we’ll walk through the challah-making process together. Whether you make challah every week or have never made it before, you’ll be right at home.
What is included with my registration?
Your registration includes your seat at the event, all of the ingredients and supplies needed to make your challah dough, refreshments, and the full evening’s program.
You’ll also receive a bowl, apron, and challah bag to use during the event and take home with you.
Can I come if I don’t know anyone?
Absolutely! You can register on your own and choose an available table. The Challah Bake is a wonderful place to meet other Jewish women from throughout the Cincinnati community.
Can I sit with my friends?
Yes! When registering, you’ll be able to select a table. If a friend is serving as a Table Captain, choose her table when you register.
Tables seat 8 women, so we recommend registering early if your group would like to sit together.
Reach out to us if you’d like to organize a table.
What happens while our dough is rising?
Time to eat and shmooze! We’ll take a break while the dough rises and enjoy a delicious sweet and savory spread.
Do I bake my challah at the event?
No. You’ll prepare and shape your dough at the Challah Bake and bring it home to bake, or freeze it and bake it at a later time.
Who is the Challah Bake for?
The Mega Challah Bake is for Jewish women and girls throughout the Cincinnati community, from every background and level of Jewish observance.
If you are not part of the Jewish community but would like to learn more about this Jewish tradition, you are welcome to join.
Table Captains
What is a Table Captain?
A Table Captain helps fill a table by inviting friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, or anyone else she’d love to experience the Challah Bake with.
You don’t need to organize the event or teach anyone how to make challah. Your main job is simply to bring women together!
How many people are at a table?
Each table seats 8 women, including the Table Captain.
Do I have to fill my entire table?
We’d love for you to invite enough women to fill your table, but you don’t need to have all 8 names before signing up as a Captain. Start with your circle and invite from there!
Do my guests register themselves?
Yes. Before registration opens to the general public, Table Captains receive an exclusive registration link to register themselves and invite their friends to reserve seats at their table.
Does being a Table Captain cost extra?
No. Table Captains register for the event just like everyone else. There is no additional fee to captain a table.
Can I have more than one table?
If you have a larger group that would like to attend together, reach out to us and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
Why become a Table Captain?
Because sometimes all it takes is one person saying, “Come sit with me.”
Being a Table Captain is a simple way to help more women feel comfortable walking through the door and to bring your own circle together for a meaningful night.
Planning Committee
What does the Planning Committee do?
Our Planning Committee helps bring the Mega Challah Bake to life!
Committee members may help with areas such as outreach, sponsorships, registration, décor, logistics, setup, welcoming guests, and other pieces of the event.
Do I need event-planning experience?
Definitely not. We need different kinds of people and different kinds of strengths. Some committee members love brainstorming and planning, while others would rather make phone calls, help behind the scenes, or jump in on the day of the event.
How much of a commitment is it?
We know everyone is busy. Committee members can help in different ways and at different levels depending on their availability.
We’ll work together to divide responsibilities so that no one person has to do everything.
Can I be both a Table Captain and on the Planning Committee?
Absolutely! Many committee members also captain a table.
I’d like to help. How do I join?
We’d love to have you involved! Reach out to us and let us know whether you’re interested in joining the Planning Committee, becoming a Table Captain, or helping in another way.
Still have a question?
We’d love to hear from you. Reach out to the Mega Challah Bake team and we’ll be happy to help.
We can’t wait to bake, connect, and share this incredible evening with you!
